The next annual LINEE meeting in Southampton will be held on November 14 & 15 2008. The Governing board meeting is on November 13 2008.
The European Commission has accepted the request for termination from the KUB as partner in LINEE. It has also accepted the University of Bern as new coordinating institution, Prof. Dr. Iwar Werlen as new coordinator and Maddalena Tognola as manager of LINEE. The Task Force Media and Infrastructure will be continued by the University of Applied Languages in Munich which was also accepted as new partners.
The interim and new coordination will request the EC to amend the contract per 1.11. The change will become effective when the EC commnicates its agreement.
The University of Szeged has taken after 12 months the Task Force Gender from the University of Berne and the University of Southampton has taken the responsbility for the Task Force Training and Mobility.
The first joint publication appeared in November 2007: Contact Linguistica and Language Minorities (Plurilingua XXX, ISBN: 978-3-537-86432-1). The volume could be ordered at the publishing house or via the Task Force Media and Infrastucture. An extensive review is published in the Czech journal Slovo a slovesnost in 2008.
LINEE mourns the loss of its founder and coordinator, Dr. Peter H. Nelde, who died on the 31st of August, after a long and painful illness. This is a tragic loss for the international linguistic community, and especially for LINEE. We shall cherish and honor his professional legacy.
LINEE is a scientific network funded under the 6th framework programme of the European Commission (FP6). It is part of the Priority 7 "Citizens and Governance in a knowledge-based society"; Research Area 3 "The variety of paths towards a knowledge society" and of the topic “Linguistic diversity in a European knowledge-based society”. The general aim of LINEE is to investigate linguistic diversity in Europe in a coherent and interdisciplinary way, by developing an innovative, visible and durable scientific Network that can overcome scientific fragmentation in Europe and serve as a world-wide quality and knowledge-based reference framework.
The coordinating organisation is the Department of Linguistics at the University of Bern. The partners are the following institutions: Universität Wien, Univerzita Karlova V Praze, Libera Università di Bolzano-Freie Universität Bozen, Institute for Anthropological Research, Universität Bern, University of Southampton, University of Latvia and Szegedi Tudomanyegyetem.
The project has started in November 2006. For more information please contact on behalf of the network Prof. Dr. Iwar Werlen.
